John Abbott has been training dogs for over 20 years.
John owns and operates John Abbott Canine Behavioral Services. He offers classes which provides instruction based on positive reinforcement training techniques. He lives in the Southeast Michigan area, and offers small group classes and private in home training in Lenewee and Monroe Counties. He specializes in teaching Tracking and Field Trial Working dogs.
John has titled his own Labrador Retrievers in obedience as well as having trained several upland hunting dogs and retrievers for hunt tests.
John is a R.E.A.D. Pet Partner and member of Therapy Dogs Incorporated. He continues his education by attending workshops and seminars, reading books on dog training and working with other professional trainers.
Johns canine partner is General Eisenhower (IKE), a 4 year old black Labrador Retriever. Ike is a Registered Therapy Dog, R.E.A.D. Pet Partner (Reading Education Assistance Dog) and Tracking Dog. John and Ike hold a R.E.A.D. Program in Blissfield at a local elementary school as well as visiting local nursing homes in their community. The residents not only enjoy the comfort Ike brings as a Therapy Dog, but enjoy watching him do tracking demonstrations, or better yet, being tracked and found by Ike.
In December 2007 John said goodbye to his 12 year old black Labrador Deke. Deke and John had many successful years working in the field and Tracking. Deke was an awesome Dock Jumper and loved the water, he will be missed by all.
John lives in Blissfield Michigan with his wife Mary and dogs Ike and Sadie. He also enjoys spending time with his grown children and grandchildren.
